A captivating exploration of the diverse talents and stories of musicians

We record a collection of meaningful conversations with musicians that resonate well beyond the immediate context of current events and promotional-cycles

The playful title question, Are Drummers Musicians?, invites listeners into a broader exploration of what it truly means to be a musician. Each episode features storytelling, community-building and valuable insights into collaboration and the music industry.

Are Drummers Musicians? is a captivating new podcast; a weekly deep-dive into the world of a musician. Through relaxed conversations recorded on a cosy couch in Brunswick (Melb/Naarm, Australia), host Luke Singleton uncovers the diverse perspectives and stories of musicians; artists, session musicians, established, and emerging.

Unlike soundbite-driven media, this long-form format allows guests to discuss their music, experience and insights in detail, offering audiences a unique opportunity to connect with musicians authentically. Episodes, recorded well in advance and released weekly, provide timeless, on-demand access to these compelling discussions.

This is your backstage pass to the music scene - the stories of the talents that keep the music world alive, in Naarm and beyond.

About the host

Luke Singleton is the creative force behind the Are Drummers Musicians? podcast.

A lifelong musician, Luke started piano lessons at 4 and was playing drums in church services from the age of 7. Educated at Balwyn High School, he began drum lessons under the tutelage of Paul Matcott (2008-2012), and finished with Taylor Douglas (2013) and Tony Floyd (2013). Luke honed his craft with teachers Danny Fischer, Dave Beck and Tony Floyd at Monash University, completing a Bachelor of Music majoring in Jazz and Contemporary Performance in 2017. Luke possesses a deep-seated knowledge of music, with experience performing live and recording across Australia and overseas. He has also held roles as MD/bandleader, composer, and arranger.

In late 2021, Luke's life took an unexpected turn when he fell severely ill, leading to a chronic battle with Long-Covid/Post-Covid Neurological Syndrome. This illness has imposed significant health challenges and isolation, yet Luke started the podcast as a means to not only highlight the talents of others but also to assist in his recovery. Despite the hurdles, he continues to engage in projects that serve as a lifeline to stay motivated and socially connected during a time of personal adversity. Through this endeavour, he continues to inspire, engaging with music and conversations that resonate with listeners far and wide - all while nurturing hopes of a full recovery.

Beyond the microphone, Luke shares a life filled with love and companionship at home in Brunswick, living with his partner Luci and their dog Scout. Together, they navigate the complexities of life, bound by a shared love for music and the unbreakable spirit of resilience.
