This was a fun, informative and philosophical chat with Alistair Kerr, one of Australia's leading exponents of Brazilian percussion and jazz drumming, and the musical director of Panorama Brasil.

Al shares insightful perspectives and experiences from his life as a musician, his motivations and inspirations, and even broad stroke lessons in the basics of various Brazilian rhythms and styles he has studied.

Al has recorded and performed extensively with jazz and Brazilian artists at major festivals and venues across Australia and has extensive study and performance experience in Brazil and the USA.

Al's academic achievements are also impressive, with undergraduate and master's degrees from Canberra, and a PhD from the University of Melbourne titled, ‘A Cannibalist's Manifesto: Candomblé Rhythms for Drum Kit.’

He is also committed to education, giving masterclasses nationwide and teaching at various institutions, including Monash University.
