Listen here: Spotify, YouTube & Apple Podcasts.

This week our special guest is Andrew Masutti, a talented audio engineer and musician. We do a bit of a deep dive into the world of audio engineering at live gigs, discussing various roles Andrew has held, the differences between those roles, information sharing between engineers, and how he sets up a great vibe from the first impression with bands to make sure everyone has a good time at the gig.

We also chat about Andrew’s work with Australian band British India, where he’s the front of house (FOH) mixer, production manager (PM), and tour manager (TM). Alongside that, we explore his journey from being a drummer/percussionist at VCASS to studying composition at Monash University, and now working as a professional audio engineer specializing in live music.

Andrew also works as a house technician at some of Melbourne’s most iconic venues, like the Corner Hotel, Northcote Social Club, The Curtin, and many more. We get into his experience with stage, backline, and AV tech for local and touring shows, plus his time producing and engineering in the studio for Melbourne artists and filmmakers.

It’s a great conversation about the behind-the-scenes work that goes into live music and the journey of an audio engineer building a reputation in a competitive industry.
