This week we sit down with special guest Ben Cripps.

Laid-back and sitting on the couch with Scout, this week’s special guest is Ben Cripps. A hard-working and super-talented bass player (electric and double bass), Ben shares his journey from skateboarding fanatic to bass-obsessed teenager and recounts his decades-long career playing with some of Australia’s and the world’s finest artists. From Lisa Maxwell to Human Nature and a long list of incredible musicians, Ben’s stories are as entertaining as they are inspiring.

We discuss his recent venture into original music, released under his producer name Cripptic, including the funky and bass-led single Muffin Pincher. We also chat about his time with Human Nature, performing with Motown legends Smokey Robinson and Mary Wilson in Las Vegas, and the challenges of being a touring musician with a young family at home.

We discuss the Big Red Bash, gear talk about Stingrays, GLs, Fenders, and more, and his path into Sydney’s professional music scene through hard work and word of mouth. Ben also shares his wealth of knowledge on records, producers, and bass mods—a true learning experience for me and, hopefully, for you too.

Don’t miss this episode filled with wisdom, stories, and a good dose of bass inspiration!
